Hi, friends! We are just back from our annual trip to the beach and boy, has it put me in the summer frame of mind! This week’s edition includes a delicious summer treat, summer parenting hacks, a new scripture coloring book for the whole family, a great way to connect with your kiddos each day and a fun family activity. I hope you enjoy these posts as much as I did!
Friends, there are few things in life that I love more than fried pickles on a hot summer day. I know, I know. Fried pickles aren’t the healthiest, but if you are looking for a zingy, tangy snack, there’s nothing better. This recipe from Dinner, then Dessert sounds fab. She suggests having them with bbq, but I think they go well with any summer meal (especially if the meal comes from the grill).
I know we are all excited that school is out for summer and can’t wait to dive into all the exciting things we have planned. And I also know reality will set in in about three days when the kids start saying they are bored. Kathi Roach has three great parenting hacks to help kids and parents survive the summer. I’m particularly excited about her trick to keep kids quiet and in their rooms past 7 a.m.
Summer just screams for a good coloring book, doesn’t it? Heather Enright just published her first scripture coloring book and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. What’s even better than a coloring book for all ages? One that gives back. For each copy of her book, Heather will give one to someone fighting cancer. Heather’s book was created when her father was battling cancer and this is a great way to help others walking that walk. Today is National Cancer Survivors Day and buying a copy would be a great way to celebrate. I can see this turning into a great prayer journal too!
I’ve had this post saved for months and keep coming back to it. I love the way Kirsten finds individual time with each of her kids at the end of the day. Summer days get packed with so much that sometimes that one-on-one time gets a bit lost in the shuffle. Her idea is a simple way to connect with your kids each night.
I know this one sounds a bit strange for a summer list, but it’s a great way to keep kids focused on science. Plus, what parent isn’t looking for ways to keep their kids busy and learning? I love that Liz has done so much research and has found the right products to make this an easy (and stink-free) part of their everyday life. We’ll probably be joining in on the composting fun soon.
I hope you have enjoyed these posts as much as I did. I’m working on some great posts for you, including why we vacation in the same place every year, how we plan for successful screen-free road trips (and what we do when it gets wild in the car) and how to quickly and easily pack for a week’s vacation.
What have you read and loved this week?
